IP3 TNT - Teaching to Fish...

April 26th, 2006

There is an old adage... "Give someone a fish, feed them for a day... teach them to fish, and they can feed themselves..." (as long as there are fish and the rivers haven't been poisoned or dammed.) The IP3 Training for Native Trainers set out with the goal of developing trainers from impacted communities in Direct Action Strategy and Tactics so they can defend themselves, their Nations and way of life. April 18- 23rd brought about much more that we could have imagined...

The IP3 TNT brought together twenty-seven Indigenous leaders, freedom fighters, and organizers to learn to train in Ruckus' brand of Creative Peaceful Action while developing the methods and tools that best suit Indigenous people to defend their human rights. Participants came from more than 8 impacted regions throughout Turtle Island for this four-day training which focused on sharpening their abilities as trainers in Nonviolent Direct Action, Action Planning, and breathing life into the IP3 Network. The wealth of knowledge and experience in the training brought about many new tools and ideas that are sure to change the face of Direct Action in the near future. TNT participants developed a mission statement for the IP3...IP3 is a Direct Action Training and Support circle that exists to enhance the ability of Indigenous communities to DEMAND JUSTICE and WIN.

Many thanks to all who made the IP3 TNT such a huge success!

... Immediately following the TNT, IP3 Trainers and Ruckus Network volunteers took action alongside the Denver chapter of A.I.M. and the Stop Newmont Coalition to crash the shareholders meeting of Newmont Mining Company on Tuesday April 25, 2006. Action planning skills learned in the TNT were engaged as we planed and supported actions with local and international impacted communities that Newmont,s operations threaten with their Dirty Gold practices.
