Ruckus Celebrates 10 Years in the Gears
June 12th, 2006It’s been ten whole years of raising a Ruckus, and on June 8th, 2006, about 150 folks including board members, long time supporters, amazing network volunteers, and even some new folks to the organization, all helped us celebrate “Ten Years in the Gears” at the lovely Park Chalet Garden Restaurant at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.
The evening started out with cocktails and the rockin’ sounds of DJ Willie Maze of (((LOCAL1200))), then moved on to an immaculate three course dinner. During dinner, guests were entertained with colorful toasts by President John Sellers, co-founder Mike Roselle, and board members Malia Lazu and Allen Gunn. For the main event, Sellers “passed the wrench” onto our new executive director by formally introducing Ms. Adrienne Maree Brown, who then laid out her vision for the next ten years of The Ruckus Society. After that, folks were so jazzed that they pledged over $12,000 to the “Action Auction” for the Not Your Soldier Action Camp coming up August 15-20th in Connecticut.
Immediately following the auction, local band Bayonics transformed the formal dinner party into a dance party, as birthday desserts and cocoa were served and the after-party began with a bang.
Everyone seems to agree that it was an excellent birthday party, and a good time was had by all. Folks departed still fighting over the party favors including buttons, tee shirts, and embroidered blankets, with visions Ruckus’ next ten years swirling in their heads.
Many thanks to our gracious hosts, Lara and Gar Truppelli, the staff of the Park Chalet, our amazing group of volunteers, our host committee, DJ Willie Maze of (((LOCAL1200))), Bayonics, Albers Seafood, Ah!Laska Organic Cocoa, and Patagonia.
