Ruckus Training at New School
February 7th, 2009Ruckus trainers Sharon Lungo and Joshua Kahn Russell spent the weekend of Feb 7-8, 2009 training students at New School University in New York, hosted by the Radical Student Union.
After the students' occupation at New School last December, some of the students reached out to Ruckus to come faciliate a weekend-long advanced training and campaign strategy session to help the students plan appropriate next steps.
About 20 people gathered for the weekend long training on Direct Action Strategy and tactics. These folks were not only New School Students, but community members, organizers and other local University Students. Our trainers love the enthusiastic energy that students bring to trainings and there was no shortage in this training. They also de-briefed the recent New School occupation and built with folks on creating more strategic actions on their campus.
Following this training, students from NYU who were in attendance organized an occupation of New York University modeled after the New School occupation!
From one of the New School students: "The training was so amazing and useful and well done and it's had a tremendous impact on a much more difficult context, and especially for the New School folks who are watching developments unfold [at NYU]. Thank you both so much for coming out."
